King’s Quoit

King’s Quoit

Manorbier, Wales — 3 September 2026

People kept walking.
The sea below them, the green cliffs going on.

Most did not see the stone.

I had crossed an ocean to lie beneath it.

I crawled into the dark
and put my back against the cool earth.

Above me
a single stone
held five thousand years of weather.

Through the opening
sea.

Birds.

Waves against the cliffs.

Salt, earth, growing things.

I touched the stone
and wondered

who.

Who was loved enough
that someone looked at this place
above the sea
and said
here.

Someone had lain here.

Someone had carried them.

Hands had rested on this stone
before mine.

I lay still
watching the sea between the stones.

Five thousand years.

My hand on the stone.

And somewhere between the living and the dead,

us.

Leave a Little Something Behind

Have a thought, a memory, or a story of your own? I'd love to hear it. Leave a few words before you go.
